Roll Trim Assembled

Dad was down for the weekend, so he helped with a couple things. We assembled the aileron roll trim servo. It is a spring bias trim that attaches to the inboard access plate. We also trimmed and fitted the Duckworks landing light lens on the right wing. Forgot to get pics of that. Will get [...]

Left Tank And Aileron Actuation

Left fuel tank was attached to the left wing. Also able to finish the left aileron actuation. Little faster on this wing because there’s no autopilot servo to adjust like the right wing. Little glare in this shot, but you can see how the flap is used to define the neutral position of the aileron. [...]

Right Wing Aileron Actuation

Finished the aileron actuation on the right wing. Pretty straight forward. Find neutral position and adjust rod end bearings. This is a shot of the torque tube to aileron pushrod assembly at the wing root. Wider shot of the entire assembly. Neutral position for the aileron is defined by temporarily attaching the flap, bottoming it [...]

Aileron Attach

Attached the ailerons to the wings. Not much to this. A bit of a bear getting some of the washers in, but not too bad. This is the outboard attach bracket. Everything went fine here. Clearance is good all around. Here’s a shot of the pushrod running up from the bellcrank to the aileron on [...]

Outboard Leading Edges And Aileron Actuation

Thanks to Deems for dropping by for a quick rivet session. The outboard leading edges are now completely attached. Started the aileron actuation components. First up was the main aileron pushrods. Same task as for the elevator pushrod. Next up was the aileron pushrods. These extend from the bellcrank to the ailerons. These are the [...]

Gap Fairings

While waiting for a few things to happen with the leading edges (proseal to dry on a couple small tank leaks), I started on the aileron and flap gap fairings. Both sides were match drilled, deburred, dimpled and primed before clecoing back on for riveting. Riveting these on wasn’t as bad as I thought it [...]

Ailerons Finished

Finished the ailerons this morning. Instead of using proseal along the trailing edge and waiting a couple days I tried the “no-proseal” method on these trailing edges. I used the same method that Mike Howe shows on this page. I used this method on the elevator and rudder trailing edges, but used proseal also. These [...]

Ailerons Started

Started working on the ailerons. Fabricated all the skin stiffeners. Man, there were a lot of those little buggers. Took a while. Match Drilled them all to the top and bottom skins. Deburred, dimpled, then primed. After the priming, all the stiffeners were back-riveted to the skins. Same old process here. Nothing new. I do [...]
