After getting the left outboard edge parts all deburred, dimpled, and primed, I worked on the stall warning. I’m going to put in the Van’s stall warning to start. Later on I will probably try the AFS Angle of Attack.
First up was the access hole which has to be cut out of the bottom of the left leading edge. Little nerve racking the first time cutting a big chunck of aluminum out of your wings!
Then the nutplates are added to the backing plate after dimpling and priming. Pretty good fit, but still have some fine filing to do for a perfect fit.
Then on to assembling the microswitch and vane that make the stall warning. Not much to this, just the switch, a few screws, a few washers, a few nuts, and the stall vane.
After the hole is enlarged in the leading edge, the stall switch is attached to the rib with a couple of nutplates and screws.
Here’s what it looks like installed in the leading edge. I still need to adjust the position a little, but I’ll wait for that later.
Time to start riveting this edge together.

Received the wingtip strobes and strobe wire from Strobes-N-More. They have great prices. Check ‘em out.
Items still needed for wings:
- Landing light mounting kit from from Duckworks
- Nav lights
- Heated Pitot

Started the outboard leading edges this weekend. After fluting and deburring the ribs and creating the j-stiffeners, I made the cradles used to hold them while building.
The ribs were a tight fit inside the skins. This seems to be the case with all leading edges in the kit. A little tip is to slightly bend the front-most tabs on the rib flanges (the ones with no holes) a little past 90 degrees. This keeps them from binding as you are moving the ribs into position.

Finished the flaps tongiht. Well, all but 12 MK-319-BS blind rivets that is. It seems I was shorted a few in the kit. Oh well, continued on and have some on order.
The thing I am most relieved about is the fact that I have no more trailing edges to do! I was worried about getting these straight because they are so long (~8 feet), but they turned out fine. Once again, the no-proseal method was used.
Now on to the outboard leading edges, which I just might be able to complete this weekend.
Total for Flaps: 33 hours Total for Wings So Far: 70.5 hours

Received another order of “stuff” from SteinAir that will go inside the wings.
Wire runs for the landing lights, nav lights and heated pitot in various guages. Also runs of RG-400 coax for the Archer wingtip nav antennas and Archer marker beacon antenna, which will go in the wingtips.
The wiring harness for the TruTrak roll servo is very nicely done. Probably could have done it myself, but the price was right for the work involved and I’m positive I wouldn’t have done as nice a job being a “rookie” at this wiring stuff.
The Archer marker beacon antenna kit. It’s just some copper strip with the appropriate connector and coax. I will probably just use the RG-400 coax I bought instead of using the included RG-58. Just better quality. This will go in one of the wingtips along with one of the nav antennas.
The Archer nav antenna. I got two of these. One for each wingtip. One will be nav one for the SL-30 and the other will be nav two for the GPS/COMM/NAV. Great reports of excellent reception for this simple and convenient design.
This is the TruTrak roll servo. Every wanted to know what it feels like to hole $1000 dollars in the palm of your hand? Now you know how I feel. Weighs about 3 pounds or so. There will be another one of these in the tail for the pitch.
Now all I have to do is order the heated pitot (which will wait till more options are available) and the landing lights and nav lights and I’ll have everything I need for completed wings.

Made more progress on the flaps. Dimpled, deburred and primed the flap skeletons. Final assembled the skeletons. and moved on to the leading edge and skins.
Clecoed on the leading edge and bottom skins after making the cradles from some scrap wood laying around. Time to get the leading edges and skins riveted on.
Once again the garage is getting a little hot. Vacation time for a week. Back at it after soaking up some midwest humidity.

Got an order in for some of the stuff I need to put in the wings before closing. This is the tank test kit from Vans. Just a couple of fittings that let you seal up openings and put a small amount of pressure in the tanks to test for leaks.
Also received the conduit for the wire runs, Proseal for sealing the fuel tanks, and the fuel level senders. Today I also ordered the TruTrak autopilot roll servo, two wingtip nav antennas, marker beacon antenna, and all the necessary wire and coax. All that’s left to order for the wings is the lights and pitot tube. I need to decide on a landing light and will most likely use one of the LED kits for nav lights. The heated pitot tube is going to wait until a couple companies get their newer models out before I decide.
